The Business of Spine has developed the Spine Specific Web-based Accreditation Program as the result of over 20 years of experience in the field of spine coding and reimbursement. This web-based education program is designed to aid in the growth and development of spine professionals in areas of spine coding, collection and appeals issues. Our program encompasses basic coding and anatomy to provide a strong foundation for our more challenging topics, which include the issues involved with the extensive and exhausting reimbursement and appeals process.

Successful Spine Coding

This web-based course challenges both the spine surgeon and the professional coder to become more educated in the aspects of coding, as it relates to the procedures performed in this highly technical area of surgery. Users are instructed on the fundamentals of spine coding, starting with the anatomy of the spine as a foundation. This course then covers the best practices within compliant coding standards to code for spine procedures for maximum reimbursement.

Three printable resources including our coding handbook, coding applications handbook, and anatomy graphics are available for users to keep as a reference tool after completion of the course.

Mastering Modifiers

Mastering Modifiers is dedicated to teaching the spine reimbursement specialist the importance and proper use of modifiers. This course identifies and explains commonly used CPT surgical modifiers and the applications that allow the coder to achieve the highest reimbursement possible, while remaining compliant with coding and reimbursement guidelines. Application, interpretation and requirements of use are discussed in great detail, and examples of reimbursement opportunities are presented.

Cadaver to Coding

This web-based course provides a revolutionary way to visually understand the proper coding elements as they directly relate to spine procedures. A spine surgeon leads users through the most commonly performed operations on a cadaver while instructing on the correct codes relating to the anatomy and the procedures presented.

Two printable resources (coding applications and anatomy print-outs) are available for users to keep for reference after completion of the course.

Maximizing Reimbursement

This web-based course advances the knowledge of the reimbursement specialist through a series of proven exercises that will maximize reimbursement for spine procedures. This course teaches users how to read and analyze the fee schedule, calculate minimum expected payment and track payments on a surgery. This course also instructs on how to evaluate a claim and EOB, and decide on whether to appeal the claim, and to what level.

Printable resources including coding applications handbook, audit sheet templates and fee schedule templates are available for users to keep as a reference tool after completion of the course.
